There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not legal. Eight gambling halls are situated in a relatively tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and though visas are supposedly required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of most borders.
The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling den, contains 150 slots and sixty tables. The Naga casino is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel compound that features many conveniences in addition to the gambling hall, which has ten thousand square feet of 130 one armed bandits and 88 table games.
