There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is against the law. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect spot, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and although visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling hall, contains 150 slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel complex that contains many conveniences accompanying the gambling den, which contains ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 gaming tables.
